Peter Sutherland is about to face more trouble and danger. After heart-pounding and action-packed two seasons of The Night Agent, the agent is set to return, once again, to risk everything in the line of duty. While Peter’s courage and loyalty will be pushed to the limit as new threats emerge, whispers of more trouble have already begun to make the rounds.

Even before the Season 3 premiere, there is chatter about Season 4. And creator Shawn Ryan even hinted that he has bold plans in store for the relentless agent.

The first season of The Night Agent was a massive hit, propelling the series to get two more seasons. While Netflix is yet to give a green light to Season 4, the wheels have already begun turning. As per Creator Shawn Ryan, the next installment for The Night Agent is already in works.

“We’ve been working for a while on the storyline. We have some scripts, we are breaking stories,” Ryan told Deadline.

“I think you know from the tax credit, there’s a date by which you need to be filming by; there’s time for us at the moment.”

Moreover, in November, series producer Sony Pictures TV secured a $31.6 million tax credit as per Deadline to relocate filming from New York, where Seasons 2 and 3 were shot, to Los Angeles. And the credit comes with a six-month deadline to begin production. While there is still time, a renewal is awaited.

It seems Netflix is waiting to see if Season 3 and its new plot can see the same success as Season 1 and 2 before officially greenlighting Season 4. And as soon as the show is renewed, The Night Agent could jump into production quickly, ensuring fans do not have to wait long for the next season. But while Season 4 is still taking shape with no official confirmation, rumors of a potential spinoff have been circulating.

Fortunately, Ryan shed some light on it and clarified the speculation.

Is there a spin-off for The Night Agent?

The first season of The Night Agent was a sleeper hit, with the show securing 98.2 million views in 91 days after release. It was followed by season 2, which had 53.2 million views in 159 days. While season 3 is about to see the light on February 19, there were rumors about Netflix looking for the cast of a The Night Agent spinoff.

And who better to clarify than creator Shawn Ryan? In his interview with Deadline, he opened up about which parts of the rumors are true.

“There was never any casting thing or anything, that was never happening,” he said.

He further added that they were quite close to making a spinoff.

“There was an idea that we bandied about after Season 2,” he said. “It wasn’t fully fleshed out. It wasn’t officially pitched or anything. There were some conversations but nothing came to that.”

For now, Ryan and his team are focused on shaping Season 4 and securing its official renewal. He plans to keep the series on a yearly release schedule for fans and that has his entire focus. But anything on spin-offs will have to wait for the time being.
