Love has never been in short supply in Netflix’s Bridgerton, and neither has the delicious drama that comes with it. From Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset’s fake courtship to Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma’s enemies-to-lovers spark, and Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington’s friends-to-lovers journey, every romance has had its own flavor. Now, Netflix is finally giving Lady Violet Bridgerton her moment with a new prequel.

And with Lady Violet Bridgerton at the heart of it, fans can expect the warmth, elegance, yearning, and romance they already adore.

Bridgerton is finally giving Lady Violet her leading-lady moment

Netflix has officially opened another chapter of the Bridgerton family saga, announcing an untitled prequel centered on Lady Violet Bridgerton’s younger years. The news was revealed through Netflix Tudum, confirming that Shonda Rhimes will return to the world she created as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner, although the cast remains unconfirmed. Tom Verica is also attached to direct the limited series.

The story will explore Lady Violet Ledger and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton before they became the beloved parents at the center of the Bridgerton dynasty. Their romance will eventually lead to marriage and the creation of the sprawling family estate, setting the stage for the eight children who would carry the Bridgerton name through the series.

Netflix Tudum also revealed that the project will follow the limited-series format established by Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, potentially moving between past and present. That structure could allow the Dowager Viscountess Violet to reflect on her marriage while navigating her present connection with Lord Marcus Anderson. With Shonda Rhimes back in the writers' room, the prequel already has a distinctly Shondaland stamp.

While the Bridgerton siblings keep getting their turn at romance and Season 6 is already brewing, Lady Violet Bridgerton’s love story has plenty worth revisiting.

What is known about Lady Violet Bridgerton's story up till now

The Bridgerton universe has not exactly kept Lady Violet Bridgerton’s romantic history under lock and key. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story shows Violet Ledger as a spirited young woman who grows up alongside the irritatingly charming Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, with childhood squabbles eventually becoming love. It also reveals how Lord Ledger taught his daughter to prize affection over a sensible marriage.

Bridgerton then shows just how extraordinary Violet Bridgerton’s marriage became, from passionate romance and eight children to the devastating bee sting that claimed Viscount Edmund Bridgerton’s life. Viewers have also watched Violet Bridgerton grieve, raise her family, and eventually discover new feelings for Lord Marcus Anderson. Now, Netflix is finally giving all those glimpses their own grand romantic chapter.
