Netflix is fast-tracking a spinoff of The Lincoln Lawyer, and Cobie Smulders will lead it. The flagship series is heading toward its final chapter, yet its world is only expanding further. Behind closed doors, the same minds behind Mickey Haller's courtroom battles have quietly been shaping something new. A single-pitch meeting was reportedly all it took to set the wheels in motion.
While the original show edges closer to its final verdict, one character's story is only just beginning to unfold.

Cobie Smulders is officially headlining a new spinoff set inside The Lincoln Lawyer universe. Deadline reported that the project is in fast-track development at Netflix, with Smulders reprising her role as Artemisia Emi Finch, Mickey Haller's half-sister. The script is being penned by executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez, and Matthew J. Lieberman, the same trio steering the original series. A+E Studios is producing, keeping the creative core fully intact.

Emi is an original creation, absent from Michael Connelly's novels, crafted specifically to fill the gap left by Haller's half-brother Harry Bosch, whose rights remain with Amazon. Deadline noted that a final green light still depends on closing deals with key collaborators, a process currently underway. Filming intentions echo the original show's approach, with Los Angeles remaining the preferred base if California tax incentives apply. Netflix has yet to comment publicly on any of it.
While Cobie Smulders steps into her new spotlight, Mickey Haller's original saga is racing toward its own dramatic finish line.
The Lincoln Lawyer season 5 production and release update
Season five of The Lincoln Lawyer began filming in March 2026 and wrapped production this past July. Netflix confirmed back in May that this outing, adapted from Michael Connelly's novel Resurrection Walk, will mark the show's final season. Ten episodes are expected, continuing the fallout from Emi's arrival and the wrongfully convicted case at its center. An official premiere date has not yet been revealed.

Early predictions place the release sometime between February and April of 2027, though Netflix has stayed quiet on specifics. New faces joining the ensemble include Diane Guerrero, Tricia Helfer and Amy Aquino, alongside returning stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Becki Newton and Jazz Raycole. As the final season nears its close, the spinoff ensures Mickey Haller's world keeps expanding well beyond his own courtroom. Netflix, it appears, is nowhere near finished with this story.
