Sometimes an enormously successful movie finds itself in trouble despite no fault of its own. This might be attributed to the end of favor for the movie with the film gods, or it might be because something or someone related to it has found itself to be the dumping ground of worldwide backlash. Netflix has just found itself in a similar conundrum with a very popular title in its library.

This month, Netflix's ad-supported tier users will not be able to access 59 titles, including a film that caused a great deal of controversy due to its grim subject matter.

The movie that Netflix pulled is the highly talked about project, It Ends With Us, which led to one of the most infamous and controversial legal dramas in Hollywood in recent times. Blake Lively, who acted and produced the film, and Justin Baldoni, who acted and directed the film, found themselves at loggerheads during the shoot of the movie. The animosity grew to such an extent that it took the shape of a legal battle after the film’s release.

With a reported budget of $25 million, It Ends with Us made over $350 million globally, making it a huge success. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an 87% audience "Verified Hot" rating and a 55% critical rating. The movie has all the makings to be a beloved title on a platform like Netflix, but the legal trouble attached to its name just made this impossible for the streamer.

It has further damaged the IP of the movie as the potential sequels have been clouded by the controversy surrounding It Ends with Us. The movie is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling book of the same name. The rights to the writer's subsequent novels are owned by Baldoni's production business, which may never become a screen adaptation, not until the legal trouble is resolved.
