Oscar-winning sports drama film lands on Netflix in 2026

A film that not only inspires but cinematically portrays the spirit of defying the odds, Ford v Ferrari arrives on Netflix US for streaming starting January 1, 2026. The biographical sports drama movie, initially released with a theatrical run in 2019, has won two Academy Awards.

Ford v Ferrari has been a favorite among the viewers, earning universal praise for mind-blowing performances and action-packed racing scenes depicting the true story of a maverick team's revolutionary race. It became an instant hit for evoking the sheer thrill of the race.

Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale as race car drivers Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles, respectively, Jon Bernthal as Lee Iacocca, Ford's vice president, and Tracy Letts as Henry Ford II, CEO of Ford, the film grossed about $225.5 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Caitríona Balfe, Josh Lucas, Noah Jupe, Remo Girone, and others round out the cast.

Bale and Damon's critically acclaimed film originally premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in August 2019, and has been streaming on Hulu, but come January 2026, it will finally be available globally on Netflix. Ford v Ferrari retells the legendary saga of rivalry, almost to the point of war, between America’s Ford Motor Company and Italy’s Scuderia Ferrari.

The film continues to inspire everyone who has ever dared to dream beyond limits, making a perfect addition to Netflix's January 2026 line-up.

What to expect from Ford v Ferrari?

Ford v Ferrari's plot traces Henry Ford II and Lee Iacocca in the 1960s, enlisting American car designer Carroll Shelby to end Ferrari's dominance at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in France.

Matt Damon's Shelby then brings on the already brilliant but difficult to manage British driver Ken Miles, played by Christian Bale, to perfect the bold new Ford GT40. Together, they fight corporate interference, internal tensions, and nuances of creative challenges while pushing boundaries to make automotive history.
