Friendships are undeniably one of the most special relationships in the world. Although friends are not related by blood, they are bonded by loyalty, shared experiences, and a connection strong enough to survive hurdles and distance. But can a friendship survive when a new girlfriend begins to change everything?

In My Best Friend, His Girlfriend and Me, the characters face a similar storm as tensions rise and an open battle begins. The much-talked-about German romantic comedy is all set to arrive on Netflix this summer. And before it arrives, here is everything to know about who is who in the movie.

Kostja Ullmann as Olli: Kostja Ullmann is best known for his role in Sommersturm. He also appears in Angelina Maccarone’s Hounded.

David Kross as Matze: Davis Kross played the role of Olli’s best friend, Matze, in the film. Before this rom-com film, he appeared in War Horse, Race, and Into the White. He is well known for his role in The Reader and even received nominations for his performance.

Janina Uhse as Rebecca: Janina Uhse played the role of Matze’s new girlfriend, Rebecca. She is a German actress and has previously appeared in TV series, Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten, Die Kinder vom Alstertal, and Die Pfefferkörner.

The film follows Olli and Matze, who have been best friends since childhood and are planning a long-awaited trip around the world together. However, when Matze falls in love with Rebecca, Olli begins to believe that she is changing his best friend, and this could put their plans at risk. Soon, he begins a plan to remove Rebecca, only to find out that this is a war and his opponent is equally clever. 

This is certainly one of the most hilarious and awkward tropes to keep an eye out for this summer. And it certainly has the potential to be one of the best rom-com movies on Netflix. Directed by Marco Petry, the movie will arrive on August 14, 2026.

Marco Petry previously directed the classic rom-com Blame the Game, which arrived on Netflix in July 2024. It quickly became a hit on the platform. The film follows a couple, Pia and Jan, who are deeply in love and can barely imagine being apart from each other. 

However, their relationship is put to the test when Jan meets Pia’s friends during a game night, leading to a chaotic evening. The film stars Janina Uhse as Pia and Dennis Mojen as Jan. Anna Maria Mühe, Axel Stein, and Taneshia Abt are also part of the cast. It is the perfect movie to watch ahead of Petry’s new rom-com.
