Whether it is sci-fi or dark fantasy, Brown has conquered multiple genres. However, what has boosted her film onto Netflix's top ranks is its enticing twist on conventional ideas revolving around a heroine who does not let herself be saved.

Millie Bobby Brown dominates the global top 10 Netflix ranking

Millie Bobby Brown's 2024 film Damsel, directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Dan Mazeau, has retained its position on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Most Popular Movies of All Time. With this action-adventure hit, an extraordinary achievement for a fantasy film on its own, Brown's legacy continues beyond Stranger Things.

According to the Netflix statistics, Damsel gained a total of 25,30,00,000 hours of stream with a total of around 138 million times viewed in the first 91 days, letting the film sneak into the top 10 of the all-time list of the streamer. The movie debuted on March 8, 2024, with a combination of fantasy, adventure, and action.

Damsel is now on the list of the streaming service's favorite movies of all time, along with the likes of Red Notice, Don’t Look Up, Carry-On, Back in Action, Bird Box, Leave the World Behind, and The Gray Man. Meanwhile, Netflix's animated phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters tops the chart with a total of 32,51,00,000 views.

Despite getting mixed remarks from critics, Brown's dark fantasy movie has managed to gain a large audience, reaching fans beyond the Stranger Things demographic. Alongside Brown, it flaunts a stellar cast of Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright, proving how an ingenious blend of action, fantasy, and comedy can do wonders for movies that do not belong to a giant franchise.

So, besides Brown’s star power and Netflix's global streaming domination, bolstered by the impending Warner Bros. deal, what has kept Damsel on everyone's watchlist to date?

Revisiting Millie Bobby Brown's Damsel on Netflix

This 2024 Netflix original has Millie Bobby Brown play a damsel in distress, Elodie, the daughter of Lord Bayford (Ray Winstone) and Lady Bayford (Angela Bassett), who is her stepmother. However, Elodie does not need a knight in shining armour in this movie, and the stepmother is not evil.

Using her wit, courage, and survival skills, Brown's Elodie leads a perilous expedition to rescue herself from a dragon's lair, her sister, stop sacrifices, and thwart evil herself. At its core, Damsel presents a daring twist on the classic fairy-tale tropes.

The plot interweaves high-stakes danger and personal transformation as Elodie goes from being a delusional bride to a daring fighter. The movie's breathtaking action scenes and its unbelievable world-building, including dragons, medieval power struggles, and ceremonial legends, all together make it very attractive to a wide audience.

Damsel ultimately appeals to the global viewers who crave a strong female lead, magical landscapes, glowing healer worms, and exciting survival tales. And thus, it has led the movie to be one of the most-watched Netflix movies of all time.
