Millie Bobby Brown Exits Olympic Biopic About USA Legend Kerri Strug
Hollywood's been on a sports biopic tear lately, like Timothée Chalamet's table tennis hustler in Marty Supreme, Dwayne Johnson's raw MMA portrait in The Smashing Machine, and Sydney Sweeney's gritty turn as boxer Christy Martin. Everyone's chasing that awards-season glory with real-life athlete tales of grit and glory. Millie Bobby Brown was next in line, gearing up to star as Olympic gymnastics icon Kerri Strug in Netflix's biopic, which has now come to a pit stop following Brown's exit.
The role of Kerri Strug and her Olympics victory is not at a standstill, as Brown's reasons for the abrupt exit come to light.

Millie Bobby Brown has walked away from Netflix's sports drama Perfect, torpedoing the project entirely, per a Deadline exclusive. She was tapped to star as Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, capturing the 1996 Atlanta Games legend who vaulted on a mangled ankle to seal team gold for the "Magnificent Seven", that gut-wrenching image of her landing, collapsing, and coach Béla Károlyi carrying her off etched in history.
Announced last fall, the Gia Coppola-directed film (script by Ronnie Sandahl) eyed summer 2026 production. Brown's exit stemmed from creative differences with producers, with no further details. Netflix has shelved it completely, with no replacement lead or revival plans. Both Brown’s team and the streamer are yet to comment on the departure.
The breakup caps Millie Bobby Brown's post-Stranger Things awards push, echoing biopics like I, Tonya. Strug's tale of grit amid injury and pressure was prime drama fodder, but clashing visions have now placed it on the shelf. As of now, there is no timeline for recovery in sight as another Netflix greenlight bites the dust.
While Perfect is shelved, Brown still has some interesting movies in her line-up.
Millie Bobby Brown's packed post-Stranger Things slate
Millie Bobby Brown is not slowing down after Stranger Things wrapped; her pipeline stays stacked with Netflix heavy hitters. She reprises Enola Holmes in Enola Holmes 3, directed by Philip Barantini. Alongside, Louis Partridge is returning as Tewkesbury, wrapping her detective trilogy with fresh mysteries, filming done, and eyeing a late 2026 release. A rom-com Just Picture It pairs her with Gabriel LaBelle from The Fabelmans.

The story follows two college students whose phones glitch, showing visions of their future marriage. Idina Menzel and Margo Martindale co-star, with Lee Toland Krieger directing, and it is set for the second half of 2026. A major shift comes with Prism, a supernatural Netflix series where Brown stars and executive produces as Cassie, a woman who communicates with ghosts across the world.
The scrapped Kerri Strug biopic Perfect is a setback, especially as a potential awards contender, but with Enola Holmes, a lighter romantic comedy, and a supernatural series in the works, she is quickly shifting directions. Hollywood’s current wave of sports biopics may have lost one of its leads, but Brown’s next chapter still looks firmly on track.
