According to Deadline, Michael Mando has been roped in to appear in Netflix and Legendary's live-action Gundam film. The confirmation comes hot on the heels of the July 31 release of his comeback as Mac Gargan/Scorpion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, previously seen in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. As per sources, the movie's plot and Mando's role are both being kept secret.
After starring alongside Kevin Hart in Tim Story's upcoming comedy 72 Hours, Gundam will be the actor's second Netflix project.
Michael Mando is best known for his breakthrough role in the beloved science fiction series Orphan Black and his critically acclaimed portrayal of Nacho Varga in the Breaking Bad prequel series Better Call Saul. What else do we know about the project so far?
This will be the first live-action Gundam film, developed by renowned franchise owner Bandai Namco Filmworks and Legendary. In addition to Noah Centineo and his partner Enzo Marc, Linda Moran and Jim Mickle will be producing the film through their production company Nightshade. Mickle, the showrunner of Sweet Tooth, will also be directing the adaptation through an original script.
Gundam began with the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979 and is a long-running multimedia property that led to the genesis of the science fiction subgenre known as "mecha," which revolves around enormous fighting robots. It is a brainchild of Yoshiyuki Tomino, and it still brings in more than $600 million a year.
