It seems the Holmes universe has room for more mysteries, but not necessarily more Sherlock. Believing that “men have had their time,” Millie Bobby Brown has made it clear she’d rather see Enola Holmes continue leading the franchise than watch Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes and Himesh Patel’s Dr. Watson branch off into their own spinoff. As Enola Holmes 3 arrives, the actress and producer are once again putting Enola’s story front and center.
So, why isn’t Millie Bobby Brown convinced Sherlock Holmes deserves the franchise’s next chapter?

Speaking exclusively to ComicBook.com while promoting Enola Holmes 3, Millie Bobby Brown was asked whether she would like to see Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes and Himesh Patel’s Dr. Watson headline their own Netflix spinoff. Her response was immediate.
“I think we need more women on screen, so maybe not. I think we’ve had that. Men have had their time, and it’s more Enola and more putting women on screen, for me.” Brown told ComicBook.com.
For Brown, that stance goes beyond a single spinoff idea. Since stepping into the role of Enola, she has also served as a producer, helping shape the franchise into one of Netflix’s biggest film successes after it shifted from Warner Bros. during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by Nancy Springer’s bestselling book series, the films have reimagined the Sherlock Holmes universe through Enola’s perspective, placing a young woman, rather than Baker Street’s legendary detective, at the center of every mystery. Judging by Brown’s latest revelation to ComicBook.com, that’s exactly where she believes the franchise’s future should remain.
Fortunately for Brown, Enola’s story isn’t ending anytime soon. Her latest mystery has already arrived with stakes bigger than ever.
What is Enola Holmes 3 about?
Premiering globally on Netflix on July 1, 2026, Enola Holmes 3 trades the foggy streets of London for the sun-drenched landscapes of Malta, where Enola’s biggest case collides with the biggest day of her life. Just moments before marrying Lord Tewkesbury at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Valletta, the young detective learns from Dr. John Watson that Sherlock Holmes has been kidnapped. With her wedding abruptly halted, Enola is once again pulled into a dangerous mystery that refuses to wait.

The third chapter sees Millie Bobby Brown return alongside Louis Partridge, Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, and Himesh Patel, whose Dr. Watson takes on a far more significant role than in previous films. Directed by Phillip Barantini, best known for Adolescence, the film replaces longtime director Harry Bradbeer while steering the franchise beyond a traditional whodunit. This time, Enola must unravel an international plan orchestrated by Moriarty, with the story weaving together political intrigue, historical injustice, and British colonialism into the franchise’s most ambitious mystery yet.
Whether a Sherlock Holmes spinoff eventually happens or not, Millie Bobby Brown has made one thing crystal clear: for her, the future of the Holmes universe still belongs to Enola.
