Meghan Markle Celebrates Christmas on Netflix, Keeping Royal Tradition Intact

Meghan Markle has discovered a way to infuse her California residence with a bit of Royal Christmas magic, even after several years of moving back from the UK. In her Christmas special on Netflix, she artistically preserves the British custom in the snowy living rooms of Montecito straight from the halls of Sandringham.

The Duchess of Sussex still holds on to traditions from her time served as a member of the British royal family. And With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration creates room for her to celebrate the customs that unite families, despite the Royal rift.

In a warm moment from With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, the Duchess of Sussex teamed up with Will Guidara, the owner of a New York restaurant, to create Christmas crackers. The tradition of spanning them has been popular among the royal family members for a long time.

Christmas crackers are vibrant festive tubes that snap open with a quick bang and contain small gifts, paper hats, and humorous jokes. To Guidara, Markle opened up, saying that this typically British custom is indeed a great way to sit around the table, to bond, and share laughter and surprises with the dear ones.

"Typically, people cross arms and do it. So they sit around the table, and they all pull at the same time. It actually does feel really connected and sweet," Markle said of the Christmas crackers UK tradition on her Netflix special, per PEOPLE.

The use of Christmas crackers dates back to the 1840s. Created by London-based confectioner Tom Smith, it has been an important aspect of Royal Christmas celebrations. Even centuries later, the firm continues to hold the Royal Warrant, which requires them to supply the British King with Christmas crackers as well as wrapping paper.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not joined royal Christmas celebrations at Sandringham since they left royal life, but the tradition is still very much alive for Markle, and her Netflix special is proof.
