Meet the Cast of Will Ferrell’s 'The Hawk': The Faces to Headline Netflix’s Sports Comedy Series'

Sports comedies are the best when you are craving something fun with a sprinkle of exhilarating moments. Both sports and comedy have a universal appeal and hence are huge crowd-pullers together. Moreover, with Ted Lasso’s success, the appetite for sports comedy dramas is on the rise. To cater to this demand, Netflix has announced its new sports comedy series, The Hawk, starring Will Ferrell as pro golfer Lonnie Hawkins.

The show, which is set for a summer release window this year, will also feature some heavy-hitters of the comedy genre in important roles.

As Netflix has announced in its official press release, Will Ferrell will play Lonnie Hawkins. Ferrell is a savant in comedy flicks who has given several gems over the years, like Step Brothers (2008), Anchorman (2004), The Other Guys (2010), Zoolander (2001), and many more. He previously collaborated with Netflix on the 2020 film Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

The rest of the cast members include Molly Shannon (Only Murders in the Building, The Other Two), Jimmy Tatro (The Real Bros of Simi Valley, American Vandal), Fortune Feimster (FUBAR, The Mindy Project), Luke Wilson (Legally Blonde, The Royal Tenenbaums), Chris Parnell (30 Rock, Fallout), Katelyn Tarver (Ballers, Famous in Love), and David Hornsby (Mythic Quest, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia).

Besides playing the lead, Will Ferrell will also serve as the executive producer, along with Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor, with their production house, Gloria Sanchez Productions. T-Street's executive producers, Ram Bergman, Rian Johnson, and Nena Rodrigue, are also on board with Andrew Guest, David Gordon Green, Chris Henchy, and Harper Steele as fellow executive producers.

Will Ferrell’s new golf series has already hit all the right notes of anticipation with the announcement of this stacked cast and crew, but many people are not familiar with the story of the American hero being portrayed on the screen.

The story of resilience and willpower behind The Hawk

The series attempts to bring forth one of the greatest comeback stories in golf history. The ace golfer Lonnie ‘The Hawk’ Hawkins, who was the no. 1 in 2004, decides to return to competitive golf after two decades. While he is struggling in the back nine of his career with his body exhausted and hopes diminishing by the minute, his heart tells him otherwise.

Both his son, Lance, the rising star of golf, and his ex-wife are aware that he is done. Lonnie, however, is adamant that he is only one shot away from the greatest comeback in golf history, even if he needs to win one more major to complete the Grand Slam. This is going to be a story of grit and a never-say-die attitude that will win the hearts of audience.
