Assassins and couples might seem like two worlds that do not naturally intersect, but audiences have long been fascinated by partnerships where love and danger exist side by side. The appeal of couples who kill for a living has endured for decades, with Mr. & Mrs. Smith becoming the most recognizable example. Netflix, known for scanning the globe for stories that feel both familiar and new, is once again leaning into that appeal.

Unfamiliar, Netflix’s German scripted series released on February 5, 2026, steps into this space with confidence. But while the premise echoes well-loved spy fantasies, the real intrigue lies in the people bringing this story to life. So who are the faces portraying this dangerous, complicated world?

Leading the series are Susanne Wolff and Felix Kramer as Meret and Simon, former spies who now run a discreet safe house in Berlin. Wolff is widely known for her performance in Sisi & I, where she portrayed Empress Elisabeth with sharp emotional precision. Meanwhile Kramer gained international recognition through Netflix’s Dogs of Berlin

The supporting cast brings together some of the most recognizable names in German and European cinema.

Samuel Finzi, a veteran of both stage and screen, is best known for films such as Toni Erdmann (2016). He appears alongside Andreas Pietschmann, who gained international recognition through Netflix’s Dark and later starred in 1899. Henry Hübchen brings decades of gravitas from landmark German films like Go for Zucker (2004).

The ensemble is further strengthened by Seyneb Saleh ( Dogs of Berlin), Laurence Rupp (Barbarians, Vienna Blood), Anand Batbileg Chuluunbaatar (Goodbye Berlin, Wild Republic), and Aaron Altaras, best known internationally for Netflix’s Unorthodox.

As bullets close in and old enemies resurface, Unfamiliar quietly hints that its real conflict may not be external at all.

A spy marriage, a city on edge, and a past that won’t stay buried

Hidden in the heart of Berlin, Simon and Meret run a safe house while attempting to live a normal life. When a threat they believed long gone resurfaces, they are forced back into survival mode, pursued by assassins, Russian agents, the BND, and people they once betrayed. As danger tightens around them, the couple must navigate not only physical threats but the emotional fractures in their relationship.
