Jason Bateman is set to return to Netflix, but not as an executive producer or an actor this time. He will be helming the new Netflix project as a director. He is no stranger to the director's chair, having directed movies like Bad Words (2013) and The Family Fang (2015). He has also directed multiple episodes of his very famous television series Ozark, for which he was also nominated for the prestigious Emmy award.

But this time it will not be the same because he will be directing decorated actors who have previously been nominated for the Oscars multiple times.

Jason Bateman is gearing up to direct Netflix's upcoming feature film The Cackling of the Dodos. The crime thriller will star Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson in lead roles, as revealed by Dan Lin, Netflix's head of film, during the streaming behemoth's press event Wednesday. Rockwell and Harrelson, who previously wowed viewers in Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, are back together thanks to the clever casting.

In addition to appearing in the critically acclaimed comedy White Lotus on HBO, Rockwell is presently starring in Gore Verbinski's sci-fi adventure comedy Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. On the other hand, recent credits for Harrelson include roles as a dubious magician in Now You See Me: Now You Don't and in James L. Brooks' ensemble comedy, Ella McCay, which came out last year.

Interestingly, the duo of Rockwell and Harrelson were both nominated in the best supporting actor category at the 2018 Oscars for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. At the end, it was Rockwell who snagged the top honor, edging past his co-star, Harrelson.

What are we going to see in the latest Jason Bateman directorial?

A few initial details have been released about the project. The Cackling of the Dodos centers on George, a small-town farmer who has an absolutely awful day when he finds a corpse just casually lying in a grain bin. Things become more complicated when his boss, Denny, unintentionally forces him into a disorganized, careless cover-up. The film is based on an original screenplay written by novelist Rye Curtis (Kingdomtide).
