Netflix announced The One About Matthew Perry as a three-part documentary that goes far beyond the Chandler Bing punchlines. The series traces Matthew Perry’s transformation from aspiring comedian to one of television’s most recognizable stars, while confronting the private battles that complicated his public success. It promises candid new details about his internal as well as addiction struggles.
Netflix announced the project with a portrait of Matthew Perry that refuses to separate the laughter from the pain underneath it. Alongside stories of his humor and generosity, the documentary examines his journey through addiction and the advocacy that emerged from those experiences. His legacy, therefore, extends beyond Friends and into the recovery conversations he championed.

As per its announcement, Netflix has assembled an experienced creative team to tell that story, with Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Mary Robertson directing and executive producing. Known for Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, Robertson brings an investigative eye to Perry’s complicated journey. Maxine Productions, a Sony Pictures Television division, produces, with Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, Lora Moftah, and Jessica Call also attached.
With The One About Matthew Perry joining Hollywood Demons season 2 in the spotlight, fans are already wondering who else will share their memories of the comedy icon.
Who will be the ones with the memories?
If Matthew Perry’s story is going to be told properly, the guest list needs more than Hollywood name recognition. His sister, Mia Perry Bowick, serves as the emotional anchor, offering never-before-heard memories of loving and supporting her brother. Lifelong friends, meanwhile, are expected to provide intimate recollections from the years when fame was nowhere nearby.
