Netflix is bringing Matthew Lillard’s beloved $475M Scooby-Doo series from the 2000s to its streaming platform ahead of the release of the new live-action series. Matthew Lillard and the Scooby-Doo franchise are almost synonymous due to his iconic portrayal of Shaggy in the movies. He made the character entirely his own by embodying everything that makes the character distinguishable in the animated series.

Now, Netflix brings its beloved performance as Shaggy to its library to set the stage for the release of the upcoming Scooby-Doo live-action series.

This summer, Netflix will host the live-action Scooby-Doo series from the early 2000s. On June 1 in the US, the two movies will be added to the streaming giant's catalogue. Matthew Lillard portrayed Shaggy Rogers in Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Additionally, Sarah Michelle Gellar played Daphne Blake, Freddie Prinze Jr. played Fred Jones, and Linda Cardellini played Velma Dinkley, who were part of the main cast. 

Neil Fanning provided the voice of the famous talking dog in both movies, which went on to gross over $456 million at the global box office. The two mystery comedies, directed by Raja Gosnell and written by James Gunn, served as the first authentic movie depiction of the Mystery Incorporated crew. However, the franchise was short-lived despite the massive success of the first two films.

The two comedic horror films have become cult favorites over the years, despite Scooby-Doo 3 becoming one of Gunn and Gosnell's many unproduced films. The films' popularity has grown as a result of audience members discovering them through home media release and streaming.

Anyhow, Netflix's decision is timely because the streaming behemoth is presently developing a live-action Scooby-Doo reboot TV series. 

Scooby-Doo: Origins, the official title of the Netflix live-action series, has just started filming in Atlanta, Georgia. It will be a contemporary retelling of the original gang, which consists of Shaggy, Freddy, Daphne, Velma, and Scooby. The first mystery that initially united the team will be the main storyline in the series.

Tanner Hagen has been cast as the next live-action Shaggy with McKenna Grace playing Daphne, Abby Ryder Fortson playing Velma, Maxwell Jenkins playing Fred Jones, and Frank Welker voicing Scooby in this updated version. Netflix has already released the first look at the new cast. With the release details under wraps for now, the Scooby-Doo movies from the 2000s can help ease the excruciating pain of the wait.
