'M3GAN 2.0' Is Set for Surprise Netflix US Release for 2026

AI is all the rage today, with even movies jumping on the trend and giving some extraordinarily fascinating stories and action. M3GAN is one such film, and it turned out to be a massive box-office success, earning nearly $181 million worldwide. This was followed by M3GAN 2.0, which received a theatrical release in June 2025.

Now, the movie is set to arrive on Netflix, rather than its usual streaming destination. While there are questions about this unexpected shift, fans are wondering about when M3GAN 2.0 will arrive on Netflix.

The Netflix audience will now have M3GAN 2.0

The sequel to the science fiction and horror film M3GAN, M3GAN 2.0, is set for release and will be available on Netflix from January 26, 2026. The movie M3GAN 2.0 picks up after the robot M3GAN goes rogue, with Gemma now working as an author and a cybersecurity advocate.

The conflict begins when a defense contractor creates a new military-grade android named AMELIA. Following this, Gemma is forced to bring back the original M3GAN, portrayed by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis, to stop the new threat.

Initially, the sequel was expected to move to Prime Video under Universal’s strict “Pay-1” window structure for its live-action films. So, this is what makes its Netflix arrival quite unexpected.

While the audience will soon have the movie available on the streamer, doubts remain about why the movie is arriving on Netflix instead of Prime Video.

What is the reason behind M3GAN 2.0’s arrival on Netflix?

While the arrival of M3GAN 2.0 on Netflix is good news, the confusion is about the reason behind it. This is because Netflix’s broader live-action deal with Universal is not scheduled to begin until early 2027.

While Netflix is expected to receive the same Pay-1 live-action titles that typically flow to Prime Video, this was not supposed to happen anytime soon. Now, it could be due to the box office performance of the movie. While the original M3GAN became a viral hit, the 2025 sequel underperformed with a global gross of roughly $39 million.

So, this could be the reason for Prime Video to drop the sequel. That decision would leave Universal free to license the film elsewhere, such as Netflix, which offers the widest possible global audience to recoup remaining value. By adding M3GAN 2.0 to the list of best movies on Netflix, Universal can maximize reach.
