From the dim-lit streets of the City of Love to the sun-soaked charm of Lisbon, Emily in Paris might soon be swapping buttery croissants for Portugal’s iconic pastéis de nata. The Netflix favorite, loved for its stylish escapism and postcard-worthy backdrops, could be on the verge of a European detour. Lisbon’s mayor has personally invited the streaming giant to bring the hit series to his city, hinting at a new adventure for the titular character.

With its colorful neighborhoods, lively cafés, and breathtaking views over the Tagus River, Lisbon feels like a natural fit for the show’s next chapter, if Netflix decides to take up the offer.

Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas has extended an open invitation to Netflix, suggesting that the streaming giant bring Emily in Paris to his picturesque city soon. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Tribeca Festival Lisboa, Moedas suggested he would love to see Lily Collins’ Emily walk Lisbon’s cobblestone streets, intertwining romance and career opportunities in a new way. “They can contact me. I am open to it,” he remarked, promoting the Portuguese capital's charm.

Carlos Moedas, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, also emphasized Lisbon’s emergence as a hub of technology and innovation, saying he now wished to intersect that with performative art and culture. He described the city as a symbol of modernity and inclusivity, brimming with untold stories waiting to be brought to life. However, Lisbon faces tough competition not only from Paris but also from the Italian capital, with both cities determined to keep Emily Cooper anchored in their iconic European settings.

European leaders spar over where Emily Cooper should stay

French President Emmanuel Macron, aware of the tourism and real estate boost Emily in Paris brings to the titular city, sensing that the show could potentially move out of the region permanently for the fifth season, announced to Variety last year that he would “fight hard” to keep the hit Netflix series set in his country. His remarks did not sit well with Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, who urged Macron to “relax”. In good news for Macron, however, Emily is set to return to Paris in the soon-to-be-released season 5 after a short tour of Italy.
