"Let Go of Control"—MGK Reveals the Greatest Parental Advice to Pete Davidson on Netflix’s Debut of His Podcast

Machine Gun Kelly’s (MGK) career has been defined as much by confrontation as creation. Public lyrical warfare with Eminem that nearly derailed his rap trajectory, a defiant genre pivot into pop-punk that split his fanbase, and a tabloid-saturated romance with Megan Fox turned his every move into headline fodder. He has been criticized for his aesthetic extremism, questioned for his artistic credibility, and dissected endlessly for his volatility, onstage and off.

No matter how divisive his image becomes, MGK has never been credibly challenged as a father. And he has proved once again why.

Appearing on Pete Davidson’s newly launched Netflix podcast, The Pete Davidson Show, MGK, aka Colson Baker, opened up about his experience as a single father. And he did so, with a rare mix of self-awareness and restraint. When asked about the greatest lesson parenthood has taught him, his answer was simple and telling.

“Let go of control and just be your child’s biggest cheerleader,” MGK answered Pete Davidson. MGK’s fatherhood philosophy, he explained, is not about hyper-parenting or micromanaging every decision. He spoke about learning when to guide and when to get out of the way, allowing his child to grow without fear of disappointing him. In a world where celebrity parenting often leans performative, his approach felt quietly radical: trust your kid.

MGK first became a father in 2009 when his daughter, Casie Colson Baker, was born. Years later, in March 2025, he expanded that family with the arrival of Saga Blade Fox-Baker, his daughter with former fiancée Megan Fox. He has spoken publicly about letting Casie’s voice matter, even crediting her with inspiring his sobriety journey. His appearance on Pete Davidson’s podcast signaled something bigger than a soundbite.

MGK remains unmistakably himself, smoking a cigarette while speaking; the edge has not dulled. And for Davidson, stepping into the role of podcast host marks a tonal shift of his own.

The Pete Davidson Show: A new era

The Pete Davidson Show is Netflix’s newest video podcast, debuting on January 30, 2026, exclusively on the streamer. Shot primarily from Pete’s garage, the casual, intimate setting the comedian describes as “where all the best conversations happen." The show promises unfiltered dialogue with friends, creatives, and cultural voices.

This project deepens Davidson’s partnership with Netflix, which previously hosted his comedy specials Pete Davidson: Alive from New York (2020) and Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli (2024). He has also curated Pete Davidson Presents: The Best Friends for Netflix Is a Joke Fest. The podcast format allows him to merge his comedic instincts with a conversational cadence that feels both improvisational and sincere.

Pete Davidson, who himself became a girl dad back in December, associates MGK as the inspiration behind being a dad. The result? A new chapter for both men, MGK as a visibly evolved father figure and artist, and Davidson as a host redefining authenticity in the podcast format.
