Just Days After Broken Warner Bros. Deal, Netflix Onboards Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Owned Studio

Hollywood never truly stops; like a non-stop machine, it operates the heartbeats of the entertainment industry. And Netflix, being very much a veteran of the system, knows how to bounce back after every deal lost and gained. After only a few days since quietly exiting the high-profile Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition deal to Paramount, the streaming titan, opting instead for strategy and fiscal discipline, has scored a new victory, which creates new possibilities through its creative partnerships. Netflix has established a new deal with a company backed by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Rooted not in megadeals but in bold, star-driven storytelling and creative partnerships, Netflix's latest deal marks a major expansion for the streamer.

Netflix has established a long-term partnership with Artists Equity through a multi-year streaming first-look, distribution and production agreement. This extends its film production capacity while committing itself to creating nuanced storytelling projects. The creators of Artists Equity, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, launched their studio to support creator-driven filmmaking, which has produced its first successful project, The Rip.
The new agreement establishes a permanent connection between future projects, which will be shown exclusively on the platform. The Oscar-winning duo's artist-focused studio will create films that Netflix will receive as its first choice. This creative partnership unites Netflix's international viewer base with the artistic vision of Artists Equity, which will lead to a new era of cinematic exploration that will use original storytelling methods backed by stars.

“From the jump, we’ve seen this growing need for an independent supplier comfortable across the entire creative process, from development to final cut. Netflix is a great match for our work. [...] We can’t wait to create many more ambitious, globally resonant stories together," Affleck and Damon officially stated on Monday, per Deadline.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon celebrated the new Netflix partnership as a significant breakthrough for Artists Equity, as it validates their creative vision, which they established when they started the company in 2022. Artists Equity’s films, currently produced under its Sony theatrical deal, will be globally distributed by Sony as usual. Later, they will be available for streaming on Netflix through Sony’s Pay-1 agreement, per Deadline, which means subscribers can expect several upcoming bold stories on Netflix.
Artists Equity already has several projects under the belt, itching to go global and reach every couch via Netflix.

The Rip project marked the beginning of a new partnership that paved the way for numerous international projects with a major impact. Up next, Netflix is set to stream Animals from Artists Equity soon.
"Audiences worldwide are loving The Rip, and we can’t wait to share the thriller Animals later this year. Formalizing this relationship means we will be making even more memorable movies together," Netflix Chairman of Film, Dan Lin, said in an official statement, per Deadline.
