Over the years, Netflix has blessed fans with some of the best film adaptations of popular books, whether thrillers or adventures. Think Bird Box and Enola Holmes. The streaming platform is now back with yet another promising title, adapting Jo Nesbø’s best-selling crime novel.

Following The Snowman, the brilliant Oslo police detective Harry Hole will return to hunt down criminals while battling his own personal demons. First introduced in 1997, the Harry Hole series spans 13 books and remains one of the most celebrated crime novels.

As Netflix gears up to bring the story of Harry Hole to the screen, there is plenty to know about the cast, plot, and more.

It was early in 2024 when Netflix announced its plans to adapt Norwegian author Jo Nesbø’s Harry Hole crime novel franchise. The series is titled Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, while the Norwegian title is Jo Nesbøs Harry Hole. The crew wrapped up filming back in December 2024.

Now, Netflix has dropped the news of its release, which is scheduled for March 2026. The series is produced by Tor Arne Øvrebø and executive produced by Katy Rozelle, Tim Bevan, Rene Ezra, Amelia Granger, Eric Fellner, Øystein Karlsen, and Niclas Salomonsson. 

The best touch, however, lies in how the author Jo Nesbø, himself is also involved in the project, ensuring the series stays true to its origins.

Apart from the promise of Nesbø’s world, the series is also backed by a powerhouse cast.

Tobias Santelmann will play the homicide detective Harry Hole in Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole on Netflix. Pia Tjelta will portray Hole’s love interest, Rakel Fauke. The two will be joined by Tom Waaler.

Rest of the cast includes Peter Stormare, Fridtjov Såheim, Eili Harboe, Ellen Helinder, Anders Baasmo, Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Jesper Christensen, Linn Skåber, Jonas Strand Gravli, Sonny Lindberg, Agnes Kittelsen, Nader Khademi, Agot Sendstad, Maja Christiansen, Frank Kjosås, Kelly Gale, Henrik Mestad, Ingar Helge Gimle, Henriette Steenstrup, Helge Jordal, and more.

While the cast lineup is impressive, it is the chilling mystery that is expected to be the star of the movie. 

 Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole is no stranger to crime novel readers. It follows the story of Harry Hole, a homicide detective with the Oslo Police. He tries to solve some of the most disturbing and complex murder cases while he struggles with addiction.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the first season of the series is reportedly based on Jo Nesbø’s The Devil’s Star. This is the fifth novel in the Harry Hole series. Tens of millions of copies of this book have been sold worldwide.
