Jason Bateman is inching closer to joining Netflix's upcoming scripted series built around the New York Yankees. The actor turned producer has spent years shaping prestige television through his banner Aggregate Films, and his instincts for slow-burning, character-driven stories are now drifting toward America's most decorated baseball franchise. Details remain sparse, but the pieces quietly falling into place suggest something significant is brewing behind the scenes.

While Los Angeles Dodgers fans still see him as their most devoted celebrity mascot, Jason Bateman may be about to root for pinstripes instead.

Jason Bateman steps up to the plate for Netflix's Yankees drama

Jason Bateman has officially entered the batter's box for Netflix, with Aggregate Films attached to an untitled scripted drama on the New York Yankees. Bateman and Michael Costigan will executive produce alongside MLB Studios and creator Josh Wakely, spanning the franchise's many eras.

"Details about the project are minimal so far, other than the fact that the series will take on 'one of the most decorated franchises in American sports'" Variety reported.

The outlet then added it will "take place across the team's several eras."

Variety noted that Wakely developed the concept after securing rights directly from MLB, producing through his banner Grace: A Storytelling Company. His resume already includes the Emmy-winning Beat Bugs and Motown Magic, alongside upcoming work tied to Bob Dylan and Muhammad Ali. Aggregate Films built its name on Ozark and Black Rabbit, both born from Bateman's ongoing partnership with Netflix. The platform already carries MLB's Opening Night and Home Run Derby broadcasts, with the Field of Dreams Game landing on August 13.

As Bateman's baseball ambitions take shape, another Netflix project of his has already crossed the finish line.

The Cackling of the Dodos wraps production in New Jersey

Elsewhere on his slate, Jason Bateman has already wrapped production on The Cackling of the Dodos, a crime comedy starring Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson. The New Jersey run lasted six weeks, beginning June 1 and closing on July 12, with towns including Cranford and Ringwood standing in for the film's fictional setting. Two-time Academy Award nominee Matthew Libatique served as cinematographer, lending experience from Black Swan and A Star Is Born to the project's visual tone.

The film follows George, a farmer whose ordinary day collapses after he stumbles upon a body and gets pulled into a bungled cover-up orchestrated by his boss, Denny. Rockwell and Harrelson reunite here after their earlier chemistry in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, alongside a supporting cast that includes Fred Hechinger and Michael McKean. With post-production underway and a 2027 premiere expected, Bateman's Netflix pipeline looks busier than ever, with pinstripes possibly joining the mix next.
