Not only Gunn, but it seems like Zack Snyder also supported diversity in the Warner Bros. superhero realm. There is a lot going on around the DC Universe right now. With James Gunn taking over as the new CEO and shaking everything from the grassroot level, the superhero Universe is seeing a drastic change within itself. And even though they have revealed its first bunch of movies and shows, all the eyes have set their focus on Superman.

And making the most out of it, one of the YouTubers recently shared a rumored update about the casting of its characters which stated that Gunn is not only looking for a younger Man of Steel but is open to actors of all ethnicities. This reminded us of Star Wars director, J.J Abrams and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates’ idea of creating a Black Superman. They apparently announced the movie back in 2021 but couldn’t be until now because of the disarray DCEU was in during that time. However, a report from 2021 suggested that Snyder not only supported the idea, but was very enthusiastic about it.

While promoting his Netflix movie, Zack Snyder expressed his excitement to multiple outlets, including Radio Times, saying, “it’s a bold and cool and probably long overdue move.” He further made it clear that he was not involved in any decision-making at Warner Bros. and how the idea manifests itself will also be a surprise for him, but “it seems interesting.”

Unfortunately, after the big hiatus and James Gunn taking over, the movie never really saw the light of day. But after the recent rumors, the hope to see a black superman in action is once again ignited.

According to CBR, in order to put the Universe back on track, Gunn had to trim the fat and cut down many diverse projects. Among many, Abrams’ Elseworlds movie portraying a very different Clark Kent did not make it to the big screen because of its seemingly non-canon nature. Even though the superhero universe officially announced the movie, a lot of information was blurry.

Furthermore, James Gunn recently criticized that none of the DC projects Abrams worked on even reached the stage of official casting, which negatively impacts Warner Bros.’s $250 million contract with the director. Because of such behavior, the movie may not be far behind from getting axed. And with Gunn’s Superman: Legacy put into production, both fans and critics suggest that Abrams’ depiction will go for good.
