On Thursday, September 14th, Netflix released its adaptation of the eponymous novel, Thursday Night Widows, by the author, Claudia Piñeiro. While it may not have been the first adaptation, it gained major attention. But once viewers saw the six-episode limited series, it was hard to miss their similarities. From having the show, Thursday’s Widows, follow the same characters as in The Widows of Thursday to the mystery surrounding the death of three rich men, it was no surprise that the similarities can jump off a page. But as always, there was also quite a big difference between a two-hour film and the 6-episode long mini-series.

Both adaptations of Claudia Piñeiro’s work share the same characters and plotline of a wife coming home to find her husband and his friends dead. The 2009 film focused more on using its source material as a bible. However, Netflix took a more dramatized approach nearly 14 years later with their dramatization of the story, an approach similarly taken in the case of Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story as well which even displeased many viewers.
Apart from bringing more of the character’s backstory to light, the streaming giant also added some rather famous names to its cast and crew. And they also ended up teasing viewers with a trailer that just got them more hooked.
