Kouri Richins, a mother of three from Utah who wrote a children's book about grieving following her husband Eric Richins' passing, was given a life sentence without the possibility of release on Wednesday for his murder. On what would have been her late husband's 44th birthday, Judge Richard Mrazik sentenced Richins to life in prison, the harshest punishment possible for her aggravated murder conviction.

Kouri Richins worked as a real estate agent in Kamas, Utah, and was a mother of three boys. After her husband passed away in 2022, she became well-known for her children's book Are You With Me? which addressed her grief from her husband's death. However, a prenuptial agreement outlining financial arrangements in the case of divorce or death was part of Kouri and Eric Richins' 2013 marriage.

According to the prosecution, Kouri Richins plotted to murder her husband in order to secure monetary gains. Additionally, Kouri is accused of financial crimes, such as obtaining life insurance policies on Eric without his knowledge and forging his signature to access funds. She received more than $1.39 million from these policies between his passing and her arrest. The Kouri Richins documentary helps detail the events from the planning of the crime to the punishment she received for it.
