Ozark wrapped up its wild four-season run on April 29, 2022. But the craze has not died down one bit. The appetite for another trip to the lake among fans is still strong and the rumors across the web just keeps fueling the fire. Over the years, fan theories have imagined everything from Langmore family prequels packed with tragedy to corporate crime thrillers uncovering the financial empire behind the series. The speculation just keeps coming, and it looks like a new rumor has entered the picture.

Here is everything we know about a potential Ozark spin-off and if the latest rumor holds any truth.

Ozark spin-off theories have a new contender

Havoc Crave recently took to X to report that Netflix is looking to expand the Ozark universe with a new spin-off centered on another powerful criminal family. The potential series would reportedly follow a ruthless new group looking to seize control of the empire the Byrdes left behind. However, fans should take the report with a grain of salt. Netflix has yet to announce or greenlight any spin-off, sequel, or movie set in the Ozark universe.

The X post does not appear to be backed by any verified source, making it difficult to treat the claim as anything more than another internet rumor. The Byrde family's story officially came to an end with Season 4. Nonetheless, that does not mean the door to the Ozark universe is necessarily closed. Showrunner Chris Mundy has previously acknowledged that he and others have casually discussed ideas for potentially expanding the franchise.

The creative team has left the door open for future stories within that universe if the right idea strikes Netflix and the writers.

Showrunner Chris Mundy has considered an Ozark spinoff

A spin-off of Ozark is not entirely out of the question. Chris Mundy has pointed out that the original series involved a great deal of world-building. Therefore, there is plenty of room to explore stories beyond the Byrde family's journey. Several narrative threads could still be picked up, giving the franchise more than enough material for another chapter.

"It's definitely something that people have talked about a bunch. There's nothing definitive,” Chris Mundy told TVLine in 2022.

However, the makers have made it clear that any return to the Ozark universe would have to happen organically. Mundy has stressed that giving the original series a proper ending was important to him, as he wanted the Byrdes' story to stand on its own. While a future project could still share the same universe, it would need to tell an entirely different story.
