Generations have grown up with Dr. Seuss creations such as The Lorax, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who!, and Green Eggs and Ham. Their playful rhymes and strange, memorable characters have moved from books into television and cinema. The Cat in the Hat has also received Hollywood treatment, not once but twice. These stories continue to shape family entertainment today.

So where can American viewers continue to get pulled back in time through both, the 2003, and 2026, versions?

Where can US viewers watch The Cat in the Hat movies?

The 2003 live-action adaptation, Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat, is currently available to rent on Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango At Home, with Mike Myers playing the mischievous feline. Other options include purchase listings, also through services such as Apple TV and Prime Video, and Fandango At Home, depending on current licensing.

The situation is different for the 2026 animated version. The new film has not reached a US streaming service because Warner Bros. has scheduled its theatrical release for November 6, 2026. Bill Hader voices the Cat, with Xochitl Gomez, Quinta Brunson, Matt Berry, Bowen Yang, and Paula Pell among the cast. Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja direct the animated feature.

The upcoming movie follows siblings adjusting to a new town before the Cat arrives and turns their world upside down. Warner Bros. has not announced a streaming date or confirmed which service will eventually carry it. For now, American audiences must wait for the theatrical release and can quench their thirst for animation with other animated flicks on Netflix.

While the new animated film waits for its theatrical debut, the original’s most recognizable costume is about to become a collector’s item.

Mike Myers’ original Cat Suit heads to auction

More than two decades after the 2003 film, the screen-worn costume used by Mike Myers is scheduled to appear in Propstore’s Los Angeles Summer 2026 auction on August 26. The listing includes the oversized furry suit, the red-and-white striped hat, the matching bow tie, and related accessories. The twist is that the costume looks far more unsettling outside the movie’s lighting and editing.

Propstore’s images show weathered fur, a fixed facial design, and a static appearance that feels very different from Myers’ exaggerated performance on screen. Directed by Bo Welch, The Cat in the Hat featured Dakota Fanning, Spencer Breslin, Kelly Preston, Alec Baldwin, and Sean Hayes alongside Myers.

Critics responded poorly when it was released, but the film later developed a cult following because of its bizarre humor and surreal visual style. The auction also revives an uncomfortable chapter in the franchise’s history. Audrey Geisel, Dr. Seuss’ widow, strongly opposed the live-action adaptation, and the Seuss estate later ruled out further live-action versions of his books.
