But human nature and its Achilles’ heel - desires - compel it to reach for things that might come with dire consequences. Although the streaming details of Obsession are a bit hazy for now, as it is still in the middle of its theatrical run after having released on May 15, it is likely that it will not be released on Netflix, and there is a reason behind it. Since Universal Pictures is handling its international distribution, it is expected that the horror flick will most likely end up on affiliated streaming platforms like Peacock and Amazon Prime. Talking about its digital release, the Curry Barker-written and directed movie was theatrically released throughout the United States by Focus Features on May 15, 2026.

Its streaming release is contingent upon the schedule that Focus Features or Universal adheres to, as it was recently released in theaters.

A movie from any studio typically appears on digital platforms 30 days following the conclusion of its theatrical run. Therefore, by June or July, the movie should be available on Premium Video-on-Demand (PVOD) platforms. Through services like Amazon Prime, Peacock, and more, viewers may either rent or buy a digital copy of the movie.

The insane demand for its OTT release and the fiery theatrical run just make one wonder what Curry Barker has cooked for the audience to go crazy about the film.

The nightmarish plot of Obsession

Obsession, the biggest horror surprise hit of 2026, centers on Bear (Michael Johnston), a hopeless romantic who purchases a One Wish Willow in an attempt to win Nikki (Inde Navarrette) over. Although his wish is granted, he never expected Nikki to have an evil, compulsive personality, which sets off a terrifying chain of events.

The film, which debuted at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, has been widely praised by critics, particularly for Curry Barker's writing and directing. Fortunately for the film, the critical acclaim has also translated into commercial success, as the movie has so far made roughly $80M on a budget of about $750,000, more than a 100x return. This movie still has the potential to go long, and as it moves forward, the demand for its OTT release will also grow accordingly.
