Creator Lucía Puenzo focuses on how people respond to things that they perceive as distinctive. Robots are frightening not only because of their technological prowess but also because they defy accepted standards of cohabitation, empathy, and identity.

These are not the sole selling points of the Netflix series, as it has more merits to its credit.

The story's interpretation of power structures is another important component. Robots assume the forms of women or other members of social minorities, whereas doctors and scientists are represented by men. If we consider that the various artificial intelligences are intended to obey, accompany, and fulfill human emotional requirements, the choice appears to be intentional.

In this way, the show addresses contemporary discussions about prejudice against those who are different, gender inequity, female representation in technology, and the ethics of artificial intelligence. While all this does not necessarily make Futuro Desierto the best sci-fi content on Netflix, but they definitely gives it enough value to check it out once.
