The Duffer Brothers are back, and this time again, they have brought something dark and unsettling to Netflix. Just as the title suggests, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen follows a marriage, unexpected horrors, and a twisted curse. The mastermind behind the show, writer Haley Z. Boston, manages to keep the viewers hooked till the end, guessing at what exactly the very bad thing is about.

Now, this terrifying story may have taken inspiration from real events as Boston teased in her recent interview.

Even before its much-anticipated arrival, the show made it clear it will follow the fear of marrying the wrong person. In a surprising reveal to Tudum, Haley Z. Boston shared that she took inspiration from her own parents’ marriage, which is happily intact. She recalled her mother warning her to be careful and not end up with the wrong partner. 

“When I was a kid, my mom said to me, ‘You just need to make sure you don’t marry the wrong person,’ ” she said. 

Boston did what she does best, which is turning that fear into an intriguing idea. She also shared that she discussed the concept further with her team of writers, even drawing from real stories shared by the writer couple present in the room. She further looked to classics like Carrie and Rosemary’s Baby for inspiration, and decided to lean fully into a woman’s fear of getting married. 

Starring Camila Morrone, Adam DiMarco, and Mason McDonald, the series follows a couple, Rachel and Nicky. The two arrive at his summer house for their wedding, but things quickly take a turn when Rachel’s paranoia begins to creep in. And she starts questioning whether she is about to commit to the right person.

While Boston did not reveal the bad thing, she had a hint for the viewers. 

Haley Z. Boston, in her interview with Entertainment Weekly, opened up about the show and the meaning behind its intriguing title. She assured that the series stays true to its name and that something very bad does happen. But she shared that the series will keep the viewers guessing until the very end of Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen.

“It would be false advertising if not,” she said.

The Duffer Brothers have also heaped praise on Boston’s writing for the series. The cast seems just as taken, with Adam DiMarco calling the script unlike anything he has worked on before. Whether it truly lives up to the intrigue, though, is something that remains to be seen.
