Over the years, streaming platforms like Netflix and more have been experimenting with various genres of films and shows to give their audience a wider variety than the competition. Most recently, the media company ended up revealing plans to bring a brand new drama series to its library, Dead Boy Detectives. Although it was set to be a fresh take on supernatural comedy, fans could not help but see a connection to Neil Gaiman’s iconic comic turned-TV series, The Sandman.

The premise might seem rather different from Gaiman’s exceptional work in The Sandman. However, there seem to be some striking connections between the two works of art.

Just last year, Netflix revealed its plans to bring to life the Dead Boy Detectives. While the show was initially set to air as a Max series, the project ended up switching hands. With fans seeing the show and the adapted version of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman both being fixed in the supernatural world, they could not help but wonder what else the two had in common. Apart from sharing a similar theme, the projects also share the same creator, who happens to be the 63-year-old.

Along with the English author, Matt Wagner, Malcolm Jones III also helped draw up the crime-fighting duo. The Boys had first appeared in The Sandman comic back in 1991. Their debut was in the Seasons of the Mist arc, but they stuck around for a lot longer. With the series' plot sharing the same universe as the DC comic series, it makes sense that fans were able to see a connection between the two projects. With the similarities between the two only adding to the anticipation for its release, the audience might be disappointed with a rather long wait.

In 2022, the world was promised Dead Boy Detectives by Max. While that fell through, Netflix swooped up the project last year. With the SAG-AFTRA strike halting everything in Hollywood, the project was pushed back. Now, just months ago, the streaming giant took to social media to share the series' thrilling first official teaser. The teaser left viewers intrigued by George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri. However, it was revealed that it would not be released until April 2025.

Although the wait might be a year-long, that has not seemed to dampen the excitement of DC and supernatural fans. After all, this will be the first time that fans will be seeing the detective duo be brought to life on the big screen.
