Henry Cavill‘s legendary run as Geralt came to an end a while ago. Even though the creators announced the actor’s fate months prior, his departure was still a huge shocker for the fanbase. Apart from hugely decreasing the show’s viewership count, Cavill’s exit also affected the storyline. Furthermore, re-casting Liam Hemsworth in the role did not help, as fans are still unsure about seeing the actor as Geralt.

Season 3 was undoubtedly one of the most unique seasons of The Witcher so far. Throughout the season, we witnessed a shift of focus toward Freya Allan’s Ciri. Not long ago, executive producer Tomek Baginski also confirmed, “One of the more important things about Ciri is that we will slowly discover that she is the main character of the Witcher saga.” Even though the actor’s departure was announced prior to Season 3’s release, the creators failed to ensure a smooth transition from Cavill to Hemsworth.
However, portraying Ciri as the main character can help the issue of Hemsworth’s casting a bit. If season 4 focuses completely on Ciri and her journey, the audience would not focus as much on Geralt. This will help reduce the pressure surrounding Hemsworth’s appearance as the Geralt. Despite not completely fixing the problem, focusing the story around Ciri will help make the change feel smoother.
Meanwhile, there is still time before we find out what plot season 4 will actually follow.

The rumors circulating online also hint toward a September 2024 release. However, considering that season 3 made its way a while ago in June, the producers might want to take time to deliver an incredible season. The creators also have to make some significant changes so it makes a later release makes more sense.
