In 2021, Henry Cavill sat down with Netflix to celebrate the success of his show through Witcher Con. During the interview, he also talked about his rugged voice in the show. The British superstar revealed he did not put on a deep manly voice during his audition with showrunner Lauren. S. Hissrich. Instead, the voice accidentally came up when he was shooting the first season’s King Foltest sequence.

The 40-year-old said he did not do it intentionally at all and did not even realize it happening until the shoot wrapped. “And then afterward, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I just played a whole scene in the wrong voice,'” he added.

Fans know that the video game series of The Witcher has depicted a harsh deep tone of Geralt. Doug Cockle did this baritone because the character was not just a normal human but a powerful mutant with supernatural abilities. So giving him a more of heavy voice seemed right. However, when Henry Cavill got the chance to portray the character, creators did not want him to change his original voice, he revealed in the same interview.

The showrunner wanted him to come up with his own rendition of how the White Wolf should sound. The team was okay with the former Superman performing without deliberate vocal rasps or intonations. However, somehow Henry Cavill managed to get a husky voice without taking inspiration from Cockle’s version.
