What happened to Christy Martin?

A trailblazer for women's sports, the lesbian boxing legend, Christy Martin, did not see a life full of rainbows and sunshine. The blood her opponents shed in the ring doubled at home as she bled due to domestic abuse. Martin was brushed with death after her former husband, James Martin, shot and stabbed her torso over and over again after an argument in their Florida home on November 23, 2010.

In 2012, James Martin was charged with second-degree murder, serving a sentence of 25 years in jail. After a 23-year successful boxing career, Martin, who later married former boxer Lisa Holewyne ​in 2017, confronted her former husband during his trial, and her terrific life story is well-documented in Netflix’s Untold: Deal With the Devil.
