Harlan Coben has spent years treating second seasons like an unwanted plot twist, but apparently even the mystery master has met his exception with Myron Bolitar. His adaptations traditionally arrive with one enormous secret: unearth it, resolve the resulting chaos, and politely leave. Netflix's Myron Bolitar, however, is poised to break Coben’s famously firm no-season-twos philosophy.

For Coben devotees, Myron Bolitar could be the loveliest plot twist yet: proof that even his rules can eventually crack.

Harlan Coben is finally loosening his famously tight grip on the one-season rule. During his interview with Brian Williams on Netflix’s We’re Back with Brian Williams, Coben revealed that his book series, Myron Bolitar is being developed with the hope of continuing beyond its first season. Unlike Fool Me Once, The Stranger, and Stay Close, this mystery has room to run.

“I should never say never, I learned that,” Coben said, admitting that his previous limited-series philosophy was never to return for a second season, but his book Myron Bolitar has changed the equation. The difference is baked into the source material itself, with Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar novels spanning 12 books. Suddenly, one season seems rather stingy.

Judging from what was revealed on We’re Back with Brian Williams, Coben and showrunner David E. Kelley have therefore approached Myron Bolitar with a distinctly longer game in mind. Rather than squeezing one mystery into a neat television box and calling it a day, the Netflix series could draw from the sprawling literary world across multiple seasons. For Coben fans, that is one rule worth seeing broken.

The secrets to uncover about Myron Bolitar

Myron Bolitar has no shortage of secrets waiting behind the polished world of professional sports. With every client comes another complication, and every complication seems determined to become personal.

The mystery will also put the unusual MB Sports trio through their paces, with Myron Bolitar relying on Win Lockwood’s ruthlessness and Esperanza Diaz’s sharp instincts when ordinary sports-agent duties turn decidedly sinister. The 12-novel source material leaves plenty of territory to explore, making the first season only the beginning of Harlan Coben’s larger mystery machine.
