Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man gave a bittersweet ending to the awe-inspiring story of Thomas Shelby, played by Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy. Murphy, who donned the Shelby cap from 2013 to 2022, put on the cap for one last time in the movie that ultimately put a full stop to Tommy Shelby’s incredible journey, while passing the baton to the new generation.

While the movie is doing great on Netflix, and viewers are raving about the heartfelt send-off given to the character, Murphy has recently expressed his own emotions while reacting to the final scene of The Immortal Man.

Saying goodbye to Thomas Shelby was hard for fans, but it might have been a relief for Cillian Murphy. After playing the character for more than a decade, it has become a part of his identity. Now, he has finally gotten a heroic closure. Murphy reacted to the final scene of The Immortal Man with Netflix, highlighting the emotional weight of the scene. 

The interview clip opens with Murphy saying “Good riddance” before the ending scene even begins playing. A subtle and funny comment on the farewell of beloved Tommy Shelby. The rest of the video involves a shot-by-shot explanation of what was going on in the scene, giving the emotional context of everything happening.

While explaining the scene, he takes a moment to praise the on-point performance by his scene partner, Barry Keoghan.

“I don't think so. I think that we all kind of felt like this would be the final chapter,” said Murphy in an exclusive interview with E! News.

Tommy's tale came full circle in the climax of the movie, which was brilliantly written by the creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight. When it became obvious that Tommy would not survive the gunshot wounds caused by their enemy, Beckett (Tim Roth), Duke also regretfully pulled the last trigger at Tommy's request. That heartbreaking decision marked the end of an era for Cillian Murphy.
