Gina Carano has revealed she lost a staggering 100 pounds ahead of her highly anticipated Netflix fight against Ronda Rousey. For years, Rousey and Carano existed as two of the most defining names behind women’s MMA revolution, long before Netflix ever stepped into the cage itself. Now, nearly decades after helping reshape combat sports history, the two pioneers are finally colliding inside Intuit Dome for Netflix’s massive MMA debut under Most Valuable Promotions on May 16.
And now, fans are only beginning to realise the brutal fight Gina Carano had already survived long before ever stepping back inside the cage against Ronda Rousey.

Ronda Rousey officially weighed in at 142 pounds on Friday in Inglewood, California, while Gina Carano came in at 141.4 pounds ahead of their 145-pound featherweight main event under Most Valuable Promotions. But moments after the weigh-ins, Carano revealed the far tougher fight happened outside the octagon. In an emotional post, she shared that she lost 100 pounds between September 2024 and May 2026 after spending more than a year rebuilding herself physically for the Rousey clash. Carano admitted the process was painful and exhausting, adding that the goal of fighting Rousey became the reason she kept pushing through the transformation.
"I just weighed in at 141.4 [pounds]. Since Sept. 2024 to today, May 15, 2026, I have lost 100 [pounds]/ It hurts to say that and share but I am going to share it because I worked so damn hard every week for over a year and a half to shed this weight," Carano wrote.
Adding further to the emotional comeback story, Gina Carano also thanked Ronda Rousey for “waiting patiently” while she rebuilt herself for the fight. The legacy clash now marks Carano’s first MMA appearance since 2009 and Rousey’s first since 2016, bringing two of women’s MMA’s most influential pioneers back into combat nearly a decade later. While Carano spent most of her career fighting around 140 pounds, Rousey famously dominated the 135-pound bantamweight division before stepping away from the sport.
And while Carano vs Rousey's on Netflix already feels historic, Carano's battles outside the arena had long turned her into one of Hollywood’s toughest action faces as well.
Gina Carano’s action legacy beyond MMA
Before returning to the cage against Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano had already built a powerful second career across Hollywood action films. Often called the original “Face of Women’s MMA,” Carano successfully transitioned from combat sports into blockbuster cinema through films like Fast & Furious 6 (2013), where she starred alongside Dwayne Johnson, and Deadpool (2016), where she played Angel Dust opposite Ryan Reynolds. Both films became massive global box-office hits, with Deadpool alone crossing over $870 million worldwide.

Carano also earned strong critical praise for Haywire (2011), where acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh personally selected her for the lead role of black-ops operative Mallory Kane. Acting alongside stars like Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender, Carano’s performance even earned her a Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Female Action Star. She later continued the action run through films like Heist (2015), further cementing herself as one of the rare MMA fighters who successfully crossed into mainstream Hollywood stardom.
However, with both MMA pioneers now finally back inside the arena, who ultimately walks away with the title is only hours away from being decided.
