A streaming guide to George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck on Netflix

For those who missed the CNN special television broadcast, Netflix has great news. Good Night, and Good Luck: Live from Broadway, which captured George Clooney's legendary Broadway performance, will be available to watch in the US, the UK, and a few other regions starting January 7, 2026.

Netflix secured its streaming rights after the play's limited New York run in 2025. Magnolia Pictures is responsible for the digital distribution of the performance, which proved Clooney's incredible command over the stage beyond the silver screen. Clooney also co-wrote the historical drama play with Grant Heslov, adapted from their 2005 Oscar-nominated movie of the same name.

The performance not only brought out the star power but also earned historic Broadway achievements. The play toppled box office records, being the first Broadway play to earn over $4 million in a week, and collected five Tony Award nominations.

Clooney's portrayal of the iconic broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow forms the pillar of the show, together with Ilana Glazer, Clark Gregg, Glenn Fleshler, Paul Gross, Carter Hudson, Christopher Denham, and more, first performed at the Winter Garden Theatre. Now, with its entry into Netflix's exciting 2026 lineup, anticipation for the gripping drama on broadcast journalism’s golden age has peaked.

Get ready to experience a theatrical conflict between a veteran journalist and a Senator on Netflix soon.

What to expect from the plot of George Clooney's Good Night, and Good Luck?

Good Night, and Good Luck tells the story of the real-life confrontation between the CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow and the US Senator Joseph McCarthy during the 1950s Red Scare, which peaked during the Cold War. It has been true to the original movie in its themes of journalistic integrity, truth versus propaganda, and the courage to challenge power.

The Broadway adaptation dives into the moral fight Murrow made to help take down McCarthy with measured, fact-based editorials and fearless but fair journalism amidst a climate marred by political terror and intimidation. For Grant Heslov, making the play echo contemporary crises has been inevitable.

"Originally it wasn't for today, today. But it's–this is a story that stands the test of time. I think it's a story that you can keep telling over and over. I don't think it will ever- thematically get old," Heslov told CBS News.

The narrative’s dramatic arc, Murrow’s challenge to McCarthy’s anti-communist crusade, still captures the audience, reminding them of the never-ending need for fearless reporting and ethical leaders. Initially available on HBO Max (soon to be potentially acquired by Netflix), catch the play one more time on the streaming titan in January 2026.
