The second season of Mara Brock Akil's Forever has officially started production in Los Angeles. Additionally, the show's roster now includes three new cast members. The first season of the Netflix drama left the audience with Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) parting ways in pursuit of their separate dreams, but carrying love for each other, even if it meant never meeting again. But there was the question ultimately - will they meet again?

The upcoming season will answer exactly that, and it is currently under production with new cast members joining the series.

Filming for the second season of the popular romance drama Forever has officially begun, precisely one year after the first season debuted on Netflix. As it was initially reported back in mid-March, the streaming giant has now confirmed that production on the 8-episode second season is officially underway in Los Angeles, California.

“Season 2 of Forever is in production, and we are home — back in Los Angeles, back inside a love story that keeps revealing itself. This time, through friendship,” creator, showrunner, and executive producer Mara Brock Akil told Tudum.

The California Film Commission announced the show's return to Los Angeles back in November, although season two is also anticipated to be filmed in Martha's Vineyard. This has gotten the upcoming season a $22.1 million government-funded tax credit, a worthwhile reward for returning to the City of Angels.

In addition to the production news, Netflix announced that three more members will be joining the group. Avery Wills Jr. (Swagger, Shooting Stars) and Tre McBride (Fight for '84) have joined as recurrent guests, while Malaika Guttoh has become a series regular. Ameena will be portrayed by Guttoh. Tre McBride will portray Elijah, and Wills Jr. will play Jaden.

The question of whether ex-partners can truly be friends will be addressed in the new episodes of the teen romance drama. With the production underway and new cast members joining in, the show seems ready to target next year’s release window, hopefully. For the time being, a marathon of other teen romance series on Netflix might help with the long wait.
