However, the evening takes a shocking turn when Joan, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, arrives alongside a radical group determined to fulfill a volcanic prophecy they believe will help cleanse the planet. Their actions transform the glamorous event into a hostage situation, forcing everyone involved to confront questions about belief, identity, and sacrifice. The provocative thriller is set to debut on Netflix on October 16, following the streamer's earlier decision to acquire the star-studded project and bring it to audiences in the United States and France.

According to Romain Gavras, Chris Evans was the perfect choice for the role because of his ability to balance humor, intelligence, and vulnerability. The filmmaker suggested that audiences will see a very different side of the actor compared to many of his previous performances.

Romain Gavras calls Sacrifice a rollercoaster ride

Speaking about the project, Romain Gavras described the experience of assembling the cast as being like "a kid in a toy shop." The director praised the actors for embracing the film's unconventional premise and traveling to Greece to bring the ambitious story to life.

The production itself was equally unusual. Romain Gavras revealed that much of the movie was filmed inside a massive marble mine in northern Greece, which was transformed into an extravagant gala venue for the story.

The filmmaker has also hinted that Sacrifice blends suspense, satire, and philosophical questions into a narrative designed to keep audiences guessing. He described the movie as being "built like a rollercoaster" while exploring ideas about humanity, belief systems, and the future of a world facing uncertainty.
