Fans Have the Most Hilarious Reactions to ‘Madame Web’ Crawling Its Way to Netflix Post Box Office Debacle

Published 04/30/2024, 9:28 PM EDT

Over the past year, owing to the stunning catalog of the other models in the web department, Madame Web had been quite a delight for the eyes before its release. Helmed by Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, and Isabela Merced, fans could not wait to watch the movie. But as the reviews rolled out on February 14th, despite the auspicious day, audiences could not spare the movie any love.

Madame Web, despite all the anticipation that preceded it, could only make $100 Million worldwide at the box office. Not only does it look painfully bad next to the enormous $80 million budget that went into making it but also was an all-time low for superhero movies released in this decade. Therefore, as Netflix marked the date of May 14 to welcome the movie on its platform, the reactions were quite amusing.

Given the recent sheltering of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there had been quite the talk regarding Madame Web being a Marvel movie. While the big-name cast and the budget might have added to the rumors, the movie in itself and now its release on Netflix proved otherwise.

IMMACULATE Sydney Sweeney: ‘Madame Web’ Actress Lands A Solid Comeback After Horrors in A Scary Fashion

With the actors themselves having addressed the elephant in the room, it was only natural for fans to have unleashed their most unhinged reactions.

Fans do not hold back as Netflix announces a release date for Madame Web

Despite its bizarre nature, throughout the decades the Internet has proven to be quite the loyalist when it comes to appreciating good cinema and absolutely tarnishing mediocre projects. Madame Web unfortunately fell on the latter spectrum and there were no two ways about it. So much so that the actors, Sydney Sweeney in particular, could not help but joke about it.

While they have made amends with the bad reception by making jokes, audiences on X could not help but perceive Netflix's announcement as a threat. While one fan wrote "Thanks for the warning," another one chimed in with "Is this a threat?"

This announcement also gave fans a chance to take a jibe at Netflix's rising prices as they remarked how they could not watch the movie even if they were paid to do it, which seems to be the opposite of what the streamer seems to be doing.

The hilarious reactions did not prove to be all bad for the movie, as many who had not watched it in theaters became curious to see how bad it actually was. Nevertheless, fans on X had quite the field day, thanks to Madame Web's upcoming debut on Netflix.
