It is going to be a long and well-deserved goodbye for Stranger Things, which became one of Netflix’s biggest phenomena. The show wrapped up its story with a bittersweet ending in Season 5, but its characters are sticking around a little longer with the animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

The first season of the animated show arrived on April 23, 2026. Just four months later, the series is set to return with its second season on Netflix. Now, ahead of the big premiere, here is a look at whether the episodes will run longer than the previous ones in season 1. 

The second season of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will have eight episodes, following the adventures of Hawkins’ nerd squad. Much like the previous season, none of the episodes in the new season will run for more than an hour. Here is a look at the runtimes for each episode, according to the screeners.

All eight episodes will drop at once on September 17. The runtimes are likely kept relatively short for younger viewers, as the show was initially conceived with kids in mind. And since the series is set between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original Stranger Things, familiar characters, including Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Max, will return for another adventure.

But what is the second season about?

The Hawkins squad, which usually battles terrifying monsters in the original show, is heading out on a different adventure in Season 2 of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. The season is set in the same timeline, just ahead of Season 3 of the original series. The upcoming season will take place in the winter of 1985, as mysterious forces begin rising from beneath the ground.

It will pick up right after the events of Season 1 and will focus on a ghost hunt, according to the official synopsis. The previous cast, including Brooklyn Davey Norstedt, Luca Diaz, Benjamin Plessala, Braxton Quinney, Elisha “EJ” Williams, and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, will return to reprise their roles, along with Odessa A’zion as Nikki Baxter. With eight new episodes and yet another mystery in Hawkins, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is certainly keeping the adventure alive a little longer.
