The upcoming sequel to Enola Holmes has officially received a PG-13 rating, as mentioned on IMDb. On cue, What’s On Netflix has assessed that it is due to sequences of intense action and on-screen brutality. This classification serves as a stern warning to parents that certain content may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13.

While the franchise remains accessible, this rating also commences a shift toward a darker and more mature narrative style for the second-generation Holmes detective.

“Detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where her aspirations merge in her most complex and dangerous case yet”, states the official plot mentioned on IMDB. This increased level of peril is a primary driver behind the more restrictive age rating.

While a segment of the audience stands shielded through ratings, a darker dive might allow for more realistic explorations of Enola's trouble-sprucing career, themes that fit the growing characters that may normally exceed the standard PG rating.

A look back at the ratings of Enola Holmes 1 and 2

Both the original Enola Holmes and its 2022 sequel also carried a PG-13 rating for their depictions of martial arts and period-typical threat. The films have consistently balanced light-hearted fourth-wall breaking with gritty Victorian-era conflicts. This consistency ensures that fans know exactly the level of excitement and edge to expect from the trilogy.

In the first film, the PG-13 rating was earned through several intense sequences, one even involving a life-threatening experience for Enola herself. Another notable scene featured a fight sequence on a moving train where characters could have faced a finale on their own.

The second movie further increased the intensity of the story with the introduction of the underside of police forces and industrial ongoings in the age. The plot saw Enola wrongly framed, only to orchestrate an escape marked by a sword fight. From Enola evading the curves to unveiling mysteries, to a finale with a literally hooking fight, the scenes of the upcoming Enola Holmes 3 can only be pondered on for now.
