Adapted from André Aciman’s 2017 novel, the limited series was set to benefit not only from White’s considerable acting credentials, three Golden Globes and two Primetime Emmys, but also from his involvement behind the scenes as an executive producer. For now, the show remains intact, if noticeably missing the man once meant to give it a center.

According to Nexus Point News, the Netflix show is now in the process of casting another actor to play the main character as the production is set to begin later this year, to deliver the fan-favorite story of covetous and all-consuming love.

Helmed by Oliver Hermanus, Netflix adapts André Aciman's 2017 novel, which took the fandom by storm after his earlier work, Call Me by Your Name. The story follows Paul, a man whose romantic life and desires evolve over many years, with loves that remain as intense and consuming in adulthood as they were in his youth. 

The story describes his life journey, which starts with a childhood infatuation in Southern Italy and progresses through his university studies in New England to his experiences in New York City and other urban areas. The novel explores love, longing, bi identity, and emotional complexity through Paul's enduring attractions to both women and men across different periods of his life.
