The figure has come from "three familiar sources" and is the standard fee in Washington for all the digital streaming platforms, although Netflix itself has not confirmed the salary.

Apart from Netflix, Denzel Washington has another digital release in the pipeline, Spike Lee's Highest 2 Lowest, a modern-day, New York-set reimagining of the Akira Kurosawa film High and Low. Explained to be an unconventional heist movie, told in a non-linear fashion about a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief in a deadly game of cons and double crosses, major details are currently not known, though there is speculation about the release date. It is directed by Oscar nominee Fernando Meirelles and is written by Simon Kinberg.
