Netflix has officially renewed the Korean cooking competition Culinary Class Wars for a third season, but this time, the show will introduce a major format change. Instead of individual chefs competing, the new season will feature four-person teams representing a single restaurant. The Chef applications are already open via Netflix Korea’s social channels.
As the rules now reveal, only teams currently working together in the same restaurant are eligible for the show. This shifts the competition from individual skill to a team battling for the pride and reputation of their restaurants. While the format and rules will see some exciting changes in Season 3, the creative force behind the series remains the same.
Studio Slam is back to produce the new season, with original producer Kim Eun-ji and writer Mo Eun-seol leading the charge. And fans will have plenty to look forward to both on screen and in real life. Season 1 not only dominated global rankings and revitalized Seoul’s dining scene but also gave Netflix the confidence to dive deeper into the cooking world with more such shows.
Staying true to the premise of the show, which is to raise the stakes with each season, Season 3 promises even bigger and more intense competition.
Season 2 was also particularly notable for its inventive new rules and challenges, which ended with one white spoon chef ultimately taking home the win.
Know about Culinary Class Wars season 2?
The second season of Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars concluded with Choi Kang-rok dramatically winning the finale. The Seoul-based Japanese chef, who returned after losing in season 1, faced off against Black Spoon chef Lee Ha-sung in a final challenge themed 'Just One Dish For Myself.' Choi Kang Rok’s sesame tofu soup, paired with a bottle of soju, impressed judges Paik Jong-won and Ahn Sung-jae, earning unanimous votes and the 300 million won ($203,000) prize.
Apart from this show, Choi Kang Rok has also hosted Netflix’s The Blank Menu For You, appeared on Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, and authored two books. While Choi Kang Rok no longer runs a restaurant, the chef has been a part of several shows. The first season of the show was won by a black spoon chef, Kwon Seong-joon.
