Creators of ‘Wednesday’ Reveals How Netflix Wanted Them to Cut the Most Iconic Lines of the Deadpan Heroine in Series

The bombastic “storm cloud” of the Addams Family recently left fans staggered by her arrival on Netflix. Jenna Ortega has received enormous praise from people for playing the titular role of the Wednesday series. Viewers instantly fell in love with the newest incarnation of this gothic girl donned in layers of black. It was astounding to see how this character sees the world through a negative lens, but always knows what is right.

At the same time, the actress impressively flaunted the dark personality of the character. From dropping bags of piranha in a pool to threatening others with her unblinking, staring eyes. Even though the Scream star wasn’t seen using sharp objects, her dialogue cut people like an axe. And fans need to thank the creators for saving the iconic lines of the deadpan heroine.

Netflix wanted creators to remove the darkest lines of Wednesday in the show

Creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough recently sat down with IndieWire to talk about the attention Wednesday has garnered in a short time. In the interview, they revealed that Netflix suggested to cut darkest lines of the protagonist from the show. 

The executives of the streaming giant found dialogues like “I do like stabbing. The social part, not so much, intimidating. However, the filmmakers denied and stood their ground, preventing any changes in the lines of the character.

“That’s the whole point of the character. To lose that or dilute that is a betrayal of the character,” explained Millar. The co-creators argued that her sadistic nature and macabre humor are the essence of this iconic character. Furthermore, their point was proved by the audience, who loved the murderous intentions of Wednesday Addams.
