Catherine O’Hara’s loss this year was one of the most tragic moments for Hollywood. She had been a legend, having featured in some of the most iconic numbers of all time, from Home Alone movies, Beetlejuice, to shows like Schitt’s Creek and The Studio. Several big names and her co-stars expressed their grief over her passing away, and among them was comedian Martin Short, who had known her for years. She shared a great bong with him, which was evident in her brief cameo in Martin Short’s documentary on Netflix.

The internet was quick to react to the late actress’s brief appearance in the docufilm, Marty, Life Is Short, exploring the life and career of the comedian. The documentary debuted on the streaming platform on May 12 and featured an interview clip shot before her death as well as some archival footage showing O’Hara talking about Martin Short’s talent.

The actress and comedian share a long history, first working together on the Second City Television (SCTV) in 1982 when Short joined O’Hara and Eugene Levy’s comedy group. In the clip, she talks about her first impression of Short when he freshly joined the group and quickly found his place. She also commended his fearlessness on stage persona.

At the age of 71, Catherine O'Hara passed away due to a pulmonary embolism in a Los Angeles hospital on January 30. The death certificate mentioned rectal cancer as the long-term cause, in addition to the blood clot in her lungs, and also stated that she had been undergoing treatment for the cancer since March 2025. Her legacy now lives on with those who have survived her and worked with her, as much as in her movies.
