Netflix is adding another dark crime thriller to its growing international lineup with Blood Sacrifice, a new Swedish mystery series from Lupin and Hijack creator George Kay. Set against the eerie backdrop of a Stockholm summer where the sun barely sets, the series combines a serial-killer investigation with a deeply personal family story, making it one of the streamer's most anticipated Nordic releases of the year.

Originally developed under the title The Case, the five-episode thriller follows a string of murders that sends shockwaves through Sweden's law enforcement community. With its mix of suspense, emotional drama, and a powerhouse creative team behind it, Blood Sacrifice is already drawing attention ahead of its arrival on Netflix.

The story begins when two police officers respond to what appears to be a routine home-invasion call at a remote summer house in the Stockholm archipelago. By the next day, both officers are found dead, setting off a chilling investigation. 

As more murders follow and the victims appear connected to law enforcement, detective Thomas Berg is forced to seek help from his estranged father, retired detective Alfred Berg. Together, the pair must put aside years of unresolved tension as they hunt for the killer before more officers become targets.

Leading the cast is Jakob Oftebro as Thomas Berg and Peter Andersson as Alfred Berg. They are joined by Electra Hallman, Alexander Abdallah, Henrik Norlén, Lisette T. Pagler, Magnus Krepper, Irina Björklund, Anders Mossling, and Anna Maria Käll. The series is created and written by George Kay, while Kristoffer Nyholm, known for The Killing and Taboo, serves as director. Filming took place across Stockholm and the surrounding archipelago, giving the series its distinctly Scandinavian atmosphere.

Netflix has officially confirmed that Blood Sacrifice will premiere worldwide on August 20, 2026, with all five episodes releasing on the same day. The streamer has already unveiled first-look images from the series, teasing a tense investigation, atmospheric coastal settings, and the complicated father-son dynamic that sits at the heart of the story.
