Black Doves season 2 began with an intense action mission for Helen, who breaks into the hotel room of Alexi Chernov in Paris and secures a file that she later hands to Mrs. Reed. However, after Mrs. Reed turns unusually unresponsive, Helen begins to get suspicious of her new handler and sets out to look for answers. Meanwhile, her best friend and confidant Sam, who was out for his usual job on just another ordinary day of his life, gets caught by policemen.

But what is more bizarre is when Sam is approached by a mysterious man named Patrick, who promises to let him walk free if he accepts the job of taking out four targets. Soon enough, Sam and Helen begin to piece things together and realize that it might all be connected. But the hope of finding an answer remained with Mrs. Reed and her past.

So, here is a look at what went down in Black Doves Season 2.

What is Mrs. Reed’s past and the meaning of Wildflower?

After much investigation and digging around in suspicious places, Helen Webb, played by Keira Knightley, eventually realises that Reed is being held by Black Doves. She later sets a trap and asks former Black Dove agent Laila Joshi to kidnap an executive hired by Conteh in order to discover Reed’s (played by Sarah Lancashire) location, and she succeeds in doing so.

As soon as Helen gets her hands on Reed's location, she asks Sam (Ben Whishaw) to join her, who also brings along Williams and Eleanor. While the flashback in episode 4 revealed plenty of details about Reed's past, Helen finds out the truth only in episode 5 when she finally confronts her. As she tells her, Reed, as a Black Dove agent, was sent to Berlin along with 3 others for a mission, and her code name was Wildflower.

While she initially believed it would be for a few months, the mission stretched on for nearly five years. As an undercover agent, she even had a daughter, Vita, with a man named Franz. However, Reed, who was in love with her colleague, wanted to leave and lied about an attack that was never going to happen.

She was almost successful in her plan. However, it fell apart when her lie was caught by her colleague. While both her colleague and her husband, Franz, were injured, the latter managed to survive. But due to the complicated circumstances, Reed decided to escape and even abandoned her daughter, Vita.

During her conversation with Helen, she also revealed the truth about the clip in which Helen is recorded k****** a dying man. It was her husband, Franz, who had survived and was trying to build the group Kestrel for her daughter, Vita. When asked about the reason for killing Franz, she revealed that he had been blackmailing Alexi Chernova for money.

The group eventually managed to escape the house unscathed thanks to Laila Joshi, played by Ambika Mod, who also joined them for the mission. Now, while Reed may have been locked up, she was able to solve the puzzle through news headlines that Kestrel had asked Sam to kill all the Black Doves agents involved in her Berlin 1988 mission, including her and Alexi Chernova. But rather than killing Reed, he had to hand her alive to Kestrel.

And that led to the show reaching its most critical point for Kestrel and, most importantly, Reed’s daughter, Vita.

Helen’s family is in danger

In the last episode, Wallace Webb and Helen’s car, on their way to the defense summit, get attacked by Kestrel, but the security manages to take the car to a safe space. Meanwhile, Kestrel successfully sought help from Danielle to enter the Black Doves headquarters and plan to reveal everything about the organisation to the government. That is when Laila Joshi offers to help Sam and head out to the headquarters.

At the Black Doves' headquarters, Katia Chernova reveals herself as Reed’s daughter, Vita. She tells Helen, on a phone call, to kill Prime Minister Wallace and reveal her identity as Black Dove to the public, and threatens her using the kids, who are held by the nanny, Marie. The nanny had seemingly switched sides.

Sitting in the car, Helen uses a different approach and confesses to Wallace that she lied about her identity but did not tell the truth about Black Doves. She pretends to kill Wallace on the phone and lets him walk away. And she heads out with Sam to find her kids. Fortunately, Helen is able to track the location of her kids in a zoo, and she rescues them.

On the other hand, Laila, Williams, and Eleanor successfully take out Kestrel and also end up shooting Vita. This brought Helen and Reed to the end to face the consequences. After Reed says an emotional goodbye to Vita, she and Robert begin to build the organisation up again. She even gives the job of handling Patrick to Helen, who has been approached by him.

Sam, on the other hand, leaves for Italy to his old life working for the bar. Meanwhile, Helen refuses Sam’s offer to escape with the kids and returns to Wallace to face him. Much to her relief, Wallace, who is now aware of Helen's lies, covers up for her in front of Officer Perryman. But clearly he has questions that he seemed to be asking towards the end of the episode. While the second season tied up most of the loose ends, there is still hope for season 3 if it gets a greenlight.
